Thank you to everyone who, while visiting St. Luke Health Services, has stopped at our lobby kiosk to sign a letter, or complete an e-letter, directed at NY Governor Kathy Hochul urging her to include a Medicaid rate increase for nursing homes in her Executive budget.

Family and Staff Advocate For Medicaid Rate Increases in Governors Budget At St2. Luke 1 24Underfunding of nursing homes has led to significant challenges in the recruitment and retention of staff in a competitive labor market. A nursing home’s ability to offer higher wages for hard-working staff relies on the reimbursement it receives for these critical skilled nursing services, and the primary payer for nursing home care is Medicaid.

Our budget advoacy efforts on behalf of those in our care are a part of a statewide effort coordinated by LeadingAgeNY, a trade association representing not-for-profit, mission-driven and public continuing care providers, including nursing homes, senior housing, adult care facilities, continuing care retirement communities, assisted living and community service providers. Leading Age New York's more than 600 members employ 150,000 professionals serving more than 500,000 New Yorkers annually.
